South Mimms Castle

Did you know there was a castle in South Mimms? If you didn't, you are not alone! You have probably driven past it several times not even knowing it was there! Even though it is listed on every modern map it is hidden from view, seen only by the few who know of its existance! The signs showing "Private Property" deny any curious visitor access to this historic site.

South Mimms Castle was of a Motte and Bailey type. The site is located to the west of Swanland Road and the A1(M) between South Mimms and Welham Green, it is responsible for the bend between junctions 1 and 2.

I hope to add more information about the castle in the very near future. In the meantime have a browse through the photos taken in January 2006.
